Chime Master and your neighbors

The system not only provides beautiful music for the community's enjoyment, but it also provides a powerful public witness to the faith of our congregation. Let me share with you the response of one member of the community: 'Nashville is a big city with ever present noise pollution. Police, ambulance and fire truck sirens, jet planes flying overhead and city busses and loud cars below. It is because of this lifestyle, that I have come to appreciate the 'sounds' of St. Paul. In particular, the chimes that ring out softly from St. Mark's every evening. Thirty minutes of soft, soothing chimes that any music lover, Christian or person seeking stress relief at the end of a long day can enjoy and appreciate...' Thank you for enabling us to provide a powerful witness to the community!

At first we were somewhat apprehensive about the response to the chimes by those living close to the church, but, now, we find that they are our greatest supporters. Many of them along with others in our community of Madrid have expressed how much they like the bells (chimes). I am very grateful to all of you at Chime master for your patient assistance in helping us get it programmed and in operation. Everything works so beautifully.

Now, once again as in the familiar song, 'The Bells of St. Mary's', the bells of St. Ann's are not only giving us the time of day, but more importantly, calling and comforting us as we go about our daily work and play here in central Loyalsock Township! We hear the Angelus bells and realy enjoy the Westminster chimes and special hymn concerts on given days and hours! Thanks for bringing and sending forth a little more comfort and joy in this chaotic world!

Our church secretary received a call from the secretary at the Methodist Church to find out where the beautiful music and chimes were coming from! She wanted to pass on to everyone how many positive comments about the bells she was receiving from folks who live in the neighborhood. 'They think they're coming from our church,' she said, 'but I had to tell them we can't take the credit.' Our lives and our world can be hectic and sometimes even dangerous. That's when it means so much to be reminded of God's love and presence among us. Those reminders sometimes come in a most unexpected fashion - CHURCH BELLS.

It has added a wonderful new dimension to our parish outreach program. We are in a primarily residential area, and many of our neighbors have remaked on the beauty of the hymns as they are played during the day.

Thank you for your letter of inquiry pertaining to our new Chime Master Carillon. This system is beyond everything that we had in mind when we were in the process of researching carillons. Since our church is within the New York City boundaries (Queens) and also within sight of the Twin Towers that were the target of hatred, many of our local residents were involved on 9-11-2001. Our church held several [memorial] services for families and friends who were among the missing and we used the Toll feature to give these services deeper meaning.

IT has been over a half year since our Chime Master Carillon was installed, and we are happy to report no problems and many compliments. The only complaint we have received is that some wish they were louder. But, we have to be sensitive to those who live closer to the church. We have three schools in the area, so it's a wonderful witness to those children, and the neighbors look forward to the hours it plays. Members also enjoy the playing of hymns before worship which can be heard inside and out. The Christmas holidays were especially appreciated. Mechanically, they have worked perfectly, even adjusting to the 'time change' and special holy season music. The couple of questions I did have were answered promptly and fully.

We are pleased that the bells are having a positive impact on the people of our community. 'We turn the TV down or off and even open the windows to hear the music more clearly.' 'We have been married alsmost 22 years and I can honestly say that your bells on Christmas Eve are one of the sweetest memories I have. God's richest blessings to you for bringing His words of peace through your bells.'

We were a little worried about people calling about the bells, and they did! We had about ten calls saying, 'Please don't stop playing the bells after Christmas!' 'I haven't heard church bells since I was a kid!' Another lady called to tell us that she found her invalid mother crying because the bells had touched her so deeply. Don't you just love it! This is the best outreach tool we have ever had. Each day we ring out God's freedom.

Nestled in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, our little community has become dependent on the chiming of your beautiful bells-hourly, quarterly and a special concert of hymns at noon and six p.m. As they echo across the hills, their clarity and quality of sound warms the hearts and fills the listeners with awe and reverence. They have truly enhanced the lives of all who hear and have become dependent upon them daily. After two years of service we are continuing to receive compliments on the system.

What an excellent gift we have received and are sharing. It is not complicated to program, and we have played the chimes on many special occasions. There is a funeral home right across the street, and the director is glad to ask us to play a hymn or two as people are leaving their services. We are truly blessed and so is the neighborhood.

This is a downtown church. We are across the street from the Post Office. I think that almost every week someone in the community, other than members of our congregation, comment favorably about the chimes. We especially hear from people who frequent the Post Office at the beginning and end of business days. The sound is excellent, the technology extraordiarily dependable, and your support and service have been outstanding. Our system here has operated trouble-free from the moment is was installed.

The system is working wonderfully. We are slowly using more of the features that are offered with it. The people in the community are enjoying the carillon as much as we are. We have had compliments from neighbors, people doing water aerobics, and teachers as school is dismissed in the afternoon, and nurses at the retirement home. These locations are at least a mile in each direction from the church. Everyone seems to enjoy the small town feeling of hearing Christian music. We have had no negative comments.

People from nearby downtown have commented on how reliable and comforting it is to hear the bells ring at 12:00 pm. Folks living in the apartments and condos near the church have expressed pleasure at the evening hymn selections, and often remark on how 'reassuring' the sounds are. Beyond this, we have the wireless remote programmed to sound several festive peals, a solemn tolling bell, or play hymns. This flexibility allows us to activate sounds that are appropriate to open and conclude any service, and to call church-goers to worship
