Chime Master & the Art of the Bronze Bell
Bell casting is one of the oldest crafts in the world. A true bell foundry is a remarkable place—part metallurgy, part music, part engineering—where an alloy of roughly 80% copper and 20% tin is melted and poured into carefully engineered molds to create an instrument that, when done right, will ring beautifully for centuries.
The tradition has changed very little over time, and the world's finest foundries have spent generations perfecting it.
For over 60 years, Chime Master has worked directly with premier bell foundries in Europe and America to bring that craft to churches, universities, and institutions across the United States. We are not a bell foundry company ourselves—we are a full-service bell company that partners with the best foundries in the world to source, specify, and deliver custom bronze bells on our clients' behalf.
Where Bronze Bells Actually Come From
True bell foundries capable of casting large bronze bells are rare, and nearly all of them are in Europe. Most companies in the United States that sell new bronze bells—whether they call themselves foundries or not—are sourcing those bells from the same small number of European casters. The bells arrive here, and an American company manages the specification, delivery, and installation. That's the reality of the market, and it's been that way for a long time.
Transparency Is How We Do Business
When you work with Chime Master, you'll always know where your bell is coming from. We'll tell you who cast it, where, what it's made of, and why we chose that foundry for your project.
We'll also be honest if a used bell is a better fit for your needs than a new one. Our inventory of pre-owned bronze bells from historic American foundries offers exceptional value and character that new bells simply can't replicate. And if your existing bell just needs restoration or repair rather than replacement, we'll tell you that instead of selling you something you don't need.
This is how our family-owned and operated business has operated since 1961. It's never felt right to us to do business any other way.
What We Bring Beyond the Bell
The bell itself is only part of what you're investing in. Getting it right requires deep knowledge of acoustics, site conditions, structural requirements, and installation—none of which a foundry provides. Chime Master handles all of it.
We work with your architects, engineers, and contractors. We design custom frames and mounting systems. We coordinate freight, customs, and rigging. We integrate your bell with modern automation systems so it can be rung on a schedule or controlled from a smartphone. And we're available for maintenance and support for as long as your bell is ringing—which, if everything is done right, should be a very long time.
That's what over 60 years in this business looks like. And it's what you're really buying when you choose the right company to work with.
